Cloves – An aromatic and versatile spice

Cloves are aromatic flower buds obtained from a tree in the Myrtaceae family, Syzygium aromaticum , and is often used asa spice . Cloves are used in Asian, African, and Middle Eastern cuisines to add flavor to meats, curries, and marinades, as well as fruits such as apples, pears, or sorrel. Cloves can also be used to add an aromatic and flavoring quality to hot beverages, often combined with other ingredients such as lemon and sugar. They are a common ingredient in spice blends such as pumpkin pie spice and speculoos spice.

Cloves are also used in dentistry, where the essential oil serves as an analgesic (pain reliever) for dental emergencies and various other ailments.
